Who are we?
Foris is owned and operated by Tom and Rachel Lynch.
Tom is a born-and-bred Rotorua local who grew up fishing, tramping, mountain biking, rafting and taking photos – he has a degree in resource management and geography and is a trained secondary school teacher and a nationally regarded conservation educator.
Rachel is a corporate communications and public relations advisor and runs the management and marketing of Foris Eco-tours, while also managing two little Lynchs.
Man Mountain
Nah – this is Karl Young, our senior guide. Karl is one of New Zealand’s most experienced guides. 30 years of outdoor life counts for a lot. Charming, funny and cool under pressure Karl will look after your needs and “keep everyone’s dignity intact”.
Environmental policy
We love our corner of the planet and take our environmental responsibilities very seriously. Using the minimum of resources, making the least possible impact on the environment and recycling wherever possible are what we do every day. We have a no-rubbish policy on our trips and take sustainability into account in every business decision we make.

Absolutely – we can pick you up from anywhere in central Rotorua or further out by arrangement. You can also choose to meet us in front of the Rotorua Museum.
We can pick you up from most accommodation places in Rotorua. In some instances (e.g. for larger groups or private groups) we may be able to pick up from Tauranga, Taupo or Whakatane but there may be an additional charge. Please request this at the time of booking.

No problem. You can leave belongings with us that you don’t want to carry on the trek.We offer locked storage in the van but please note this is at your own risk and we recommend you have travel insurance.

We accept cash, Visa or Mastercard (via PayPal), vouchers from our preferred suppliers and online bank transfers.

For our tours we require a minimum of 2 people for walks.

We offer full refunds for cancellations up to 14 days prior to departure. For cancellation within 48 hours there is no refund. No refunds will be made for failure to turn up or if you are late and the trip has left for the day. We reserve the right to cancel any trip due to adverse river, road or weather conditions, or insufficient bookings – in these circumstances trip payments are refunded in full.
